I’ve been asked on many occasions what the difference between Reiki and Pranic Healing is. I have also been asked if one is better than the other. Let me be clear, I would never say that one energy healing modality is better than another. I am trained in both Reiki and Pranic Healing, so I fully understand that each modality offers a variety of unique benefits. Both have their own unique approach and benefits, so depending on your needs and intentions, only you can find which is more aligned to your individual energy system. You, and only you, can decide which one is right for you.
That being said, there is a difference. According to the article, Pranic Healing vs. Reiki Healing: Main Differences and Benefits:
Pranic Healing is a form of energy healing that brings balance to the body’s energy fields thus promoting physical, emotional, and mental well-being. “Prana” is the vital life force that keeps all living beings alive. Pranic Healing practitioners believe that there are certain imbalances and blockages within the human body that limit or inhibit the flow of prana. The blocked or limited flow of prana inside the body can lead to different health issues depending on where the blockage is.
During a Pranic Healing Session, the practitioner cleanses the recipient’s energy centers (chakras), and energy pathways using his hands. This process removes any diseased or unpleasant energy from the body and replenishes it with fresh, revitalizing prana. Pranic Healing is thought to relieve stress, reduce pain, and improve health by increasing the body’s natural healing process.
That same article says,
Reiki is a Japanese healing technique designed to promote relaxation, emotional stability, and mental clarity. It is administered through the method of “laying on hands” and placing hands in certain areas to cleanse the chakras. During reiki energy healing, energy flows out of the hands and into the areas that need to be healed so that a person’s unseen life force energy is renewed.
People who have low life force energy will start to feel sick or stressed out because they have a blockage or areas of stagnation. A reiki healer can find these blocked areas and clear them through the healing method.
What exactly is Prana or life force energy? Prana or life force energy goes by many names, such as Qi, Prana, life force, ki, anima, chi, ruh, inner wind, pneuma, and Holy Spirit. I’m sure you are familiar with at least one of these words. If you’ve read my blog post, All About Energy, you already know that everything is made up of energy. Energy is the one thing that unquestionably binds us all together. All energy healing works with energy.
The article, What is the difference between Pranic Healing and Reiki? says Pranic Healing and Reiki are different paths to the same goal. They are both healing sciences that involve healing the energy body to deal with the overt manifestations of physical and psychological ailments. Both these schools of healing work in accordance with the belief that our physical bodies have two parts: the visible physical body and the invisible body, which is also known as the aura or the energy body or the bioplasmic body. Both Reiki and Pranic Healing work with the energy body.
Being trained in both Reiki and Pranic Healing, this is what I tell people. Reiki heals by injecting Qi, Prana, life force, or whatever name you choose to call it, into a client to deal with an ailment. Pranic Healing takes it a step further. This method first removes the diseased or toxic energy and then replaces it with healthy Qi, Prana, life force (Pranic Healing calls it prana) to deal with ailments. Both inject the same energy. Of course, there is more to it, but that is a simplified explanation.
The article, Pranic Healing or Reiki: Which One Suits You Better? asks the ultimate question. Which energy healing modality suits you better? This can refer to any modality, not just Reiki and Pranic Healing. I am a firm believer that all energy healing modalities—and there are many—help individuals self-heal. It is merely a matter of finding the one that works best for you. To decide which modality is best for you, research the method that you are interested in and try them out.
Now be careful with your research as you can easily find articles to support any belief. If you think energy medicine is “hogwash,” you will find articles that support that premise. If you think energy medicine promotes self-healing, you will find articles that support that idea. You can find evidence to support any premise on the Internet and in books. I suggest you read many articles, talk to people who use these healing modalities, and use discernment. Check out the opinions of others, but do your own thinking, and don’t forget to tap into your intuition as well. Intuition is always right.
The article, Finding Reliable Information on the Internet, talks about the C.R.A.P Test, which is a way to evaluate sources in order to determine how reliable they are. It uses the following criteria.
- CURRENCY: When was it written? Is it current enough for your topic?
- RELEVANCE: Does it relate to your topic or answer your question?
- AUTHORITY: Who created the information? What makes the author knowledgeable (credentials, known and respected)?
- PURPOSE / POINT OF VIEW: Why was it written? Is the author’s purpose to sell, persuade, entertain, or inform?
It’s important to evaluate your sources before using them, particularly if you are using information found on the internet.
