To the Skeptics

Simply put, a skeptic is someone who doesn’t believe something to be true unless they see proof. Are you skeptical about energy healing? There is nothing wrong about approaching energy healing with skepticism. I too was skeptical when I first explored energy healing. When I took my first ThetaHealing course, I approached the course with both skepticism and curiosity, but I also adopted the philosophy, “Don’t knock it till you try it.” I experienced firsthand how simple, yet effective, energy self-healing can be. I continued to take more courses and I am a different person because of energy self-healing.

Energy healing has a long tradition, is based on science, and is intended to assist self-healing. I talked about this in my last blog post. It is about changing your energy; a process of balancing and clearing your energy field.

What is an energy field? Keep in mind that everything is energy and that includes our bodies. The human body is an energy field which consists of five layers of energy. The first layer is your physical body. The other four energy fields are more commonly known as your ‘aura.’ The aura surrounds the physical body, and is invisible to most of us. Your energy field is an intelligent energy system that regulates your health and the healing of your mind, body, and spirit. To self-heal, your energy field must be balanced and energy needs to flow properly. That is where energy work can help.

Here is a little biology lesson for you. As you probably know, the human body is made of cells, which make up tissues, and tissues make organs. The thing to remember is cells are made of molecules. And what are molecules made of? Atoms. What are atoms made of? Sub-atomic particles such as electrons and protons, which are energy. That’s why you are one big energy system. It’s basic science.

Have you ever walked into a room and instantly felt drained and yucky? Chances are you walked into a room filled with negative energy. You are picking up people’s negative emotions; emotions like sadness, anger, and frustration. Deepak Chopra says, “Negative people deplete your energy. Surround yourself with love and nourishment and do not allow the creation of negativity in your environment.” It is so true. I remember walking into my classroom once and instantly feeling that someone was upset. I later found out that one of my students was issued a speeding ticket during lunch hour.

E-motions are energy in motion. Emotions are meant to flow through us. When we suppress or repress emotions, they become stuck in our body tissues, and if never processed and expressed, they remain there and cause dis-ease. Emotions affect our feelings, our behaviour, and our thoughts. Thoughts are what create the stories we tell ourselves; stories about who we are. What I am really talking about is limiting beliefs, which are often subconscious, and are mostly formed when we were children. These beliefs limit us from becoming our best selves.

Lisa Manyon, author of ‘Spiritual Sugar: The Divine Ingredients to Heal Yourself with Love’, said: “If emotions and thoughts can impact the structure of water and food, imagine what they do to you on a cellular level in your body?”  It’s true. The thoughts we tell ourselves can create stress. Stress triggers the body’s fight-or-flight response, and if it becomes chronic stress, it can cause negative health effects on your mood, immune and digestive systems, and affect cardiovascular health. It feels like I am back teaching biology again.

Can emotions and thoughts impact the structure of water? You bet. ‘The Hidden Messages in Water’ is a book by Dr. Masaru Emoto; a book I discovered many years ago. I bought and read the book because I was fascinated with Dr. Emoto’s experiments. His aim was to prove to the scientific community and the world at large, that consciousness is a part of our reality. In fact, research says consciousness comes from energy made of electromagnetic waves in the brain. In other words, consciousness is energy. Emoto’s experiments show that water connects to our individual and collective consciousness. His experiments show that water can absorb, hold, and even carry human feelings and emotions. I know that sounds crazy, but if everything is energy, then it makes sense.

Dr. Emoto discovered through his research that molecules of water can be affected by thoughts, words, and feelings. Using high-speed photography, Dr. Emoto revealed how the crystals that formed when water is frozen change when specific, concentrated thoughts are directed toward them. Music, visual images, words written on paper and photographs also had an impact on the crystal structure. He found that water from clear springs and water exposed to loving words shows brilliant, complex, and colourful snowflake patterns, while polluted water and water exposed to negative thoughts forms incomplete, asymmetrical patterns with dull colours. Emoto believes that since people are 70 percent water, and the Earth is 70 percent water, we can heal our planet and ourselves by consciously expressing love and goodwill. The article, Does water respond to your emotions? Dr Masaru Emoto’s studies, gives a summary with pictures of his experiments. Check out the video of Masaru Emoto’s Experiment in Gratitude.

Dr. Masaru Emoto stated:

“I believe my research validates the idea that water holds and transmits information. I believe that the more we properly understand water, the more we can expand our consciousness into other dimensions. For me personally, this validation has been invaluable because to be honest I could not sense the invisible world through my own sensibilities. When people would speak of the inner world of our psychology, I would wonder if that was even possible. But through this validation, seeing how our thoughts affect water, I no longer doubt this.”

If you are skeptical about energy therapy remember that you can’t see the wind, gravity, or the earth’s magnetic field, yet they exist. Energy flows between us. A good example of this is when someone touches an electric fence while others are touching him or her, everyone gets a shock. Everyone feels the electric energy because the energy moves from person to person.

Skeptics have good reasons to be skeptical. Energy healing is not part of Western Medicine that typically prescribes specific drugs or surgery for a dis-ease. Energy healing has been a part of Eastern Medicine for centuries, but we’ve been programmed to believe that Western Medicine is superior. Eastern medicine focuses on treating the whole person rather than just symptoms. Eastern medicine approaches diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease in a holistic manner, that is, treating the mind, body, and spirit. Eastern practice includes treatments such as acupuncture and tai chi, both of which affect the body’s energy systems.

So, be that skeptic, in fact, I encourage it, but I would hope as a skeptic, you seek truth. Be curious and learn about energy medicine. Even better, try it. Then you will have your proof.
